What To Expect
Nutritional Therapy Consultations

One-to-One nutritional consultations
When you book an appointment, you will be sent intake forms that include a detailed confidential questionnaire and a 5-day food diary to complete. These are essential tools used in the assessment of symptoms and concerns that save valuable time during consultations. You are asked to return the completed information to me a minimum of 2 days prior to your consultation so that I can prepare for our meeting.

This includes:
-
Review of health goals and assessment of progress
-
Analysis and interpretation of test results (when appropriate)
-
Personalised health advice
-
Handouts (when appropriate)

Dietary supplements (where necessary)

Further recommendations for functional testing (when appropriate)
This follow-up stage is approximately 4 weeks after Stage 1, to assess your progress and allow time for any recommended tests to be carried out. We will discuss your main health concerns, their contributing factors and results of any tests that you may have done. Further recommendations will include personalised health advice and a supplement programme will be prepared to address any nutritional imbalances.
Stage 3: Ongoing Follow-up Consultations
Subsequent follow-up consultations will depend on your individual health goals, your progress and feedback and the amount of support that you will require. This will be discussed at your initial consultation and reviewed as we go along. To obtain the maximum benefit from your Nutritional Therapy programme, I ask you to make a firm commitment to your health goals and the programme.

About supplements:
Joan does not promote the sale of any particular brand of supplements and you are not obliged to purchase nutritional supplements.
They may, however, be recommended in certain instances. These may include helping to correct nutritional deficiencies determined through testing and supporting some conditions for which a need for certain nutrients may exceed what a dietary plan alone may provide.
As quality may vary, product recommendations will be determined with foremost consideration of your safety and backed by science. Other factors taken into account include the quality of individual and combined constituents and how they may work together, how they are manufactured, their purity and how well they may be absorbed.
Joan offers a 10% discount on all supplements ordered through The Natural Dispensary.

About testing:
Testing is not always needed and you are not required to undergo testing. When recommended, biochemical and functional testing are used to supply a more in-depth examination of potential contributing factors and root causes of your health issues. Some tests may be done through your GP or through private medical laboratories. Many laboratory tests can be done at home. I am also happy to write to a GP or other medical practitioner if you ask me to do so. Costs for any tests and how they are performed can be discussed during your consultation.
Tests – Examples:
Hormone panels (such as stress, thyroid or female)
Digestive and Gut Function Testing
Parisitology and MicrobialTesting
Intolerance/allergy testing
Nutritional Status Assessments (e.g. vitamin and mineral deficiencies)
Genetic testing
Autoimmune markers, including specific autoantibodies
Data from these tests is used at further stages to individualise your recommendations.
